The news is now public:

Traces of the Trade has been selected for competition at the Sundance Film Festival!

We’re very pleased by this recognition for the film and its director, and we can’t wait to share our story.

As regular readers of the blog know, Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North is Katrina Browne’s documentary about James D’Wolf and his family, who were slave traders in Bristol, Rhode Island. The film follows ten D’Wolf descendants as we re-trace the route of the infamous “triangle trade” and wrestle with the legacy of slavery and the slave trade for our society today.

The 2008 Sundance Film Festival will be held on January 17-27 in Park City, Utah. Traces of the Trade will hold its world premiere at the festival, and there will be other events surrounding the film, including appearances by my cousin, Tom DeWolf, who will have just published his related memoir, Inheriting the Trade: A Northern Family Confronts Its Legacy as the Largest Slave-Trading Dynasty in U.S. History.

Edit: The world premiere will be on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 21, 2008, at 6:15pm. Members of the cast and crew will be on hand, and there will be a panel discussion earlier in the day with noted experts on slavery and race.
