Senator Kennedy didn't author any pioneering civil rights legislation after 1990, but that doesn't mean he didn't continue to play a major role in legislation. In fact, his reputation as a "liberal lion" was largely formed during the period of Republican control in the 1990s, when he was able to pass key pieces of his agenda in cooperation with Republican colleagues.

After seeing all of the adoring news coverage the last few days, I sympathize with your objection to hero worship. However, I don't think any senator is judged based on whether there's a single issue-area in which he or she doesn't see their ultimate objective realized. Kennedy managed to pass many key initiatives on health care. The fact that Congress has moved much closer to health care reform, largely prodded by Kennedy, but hasn't passed it yet is hardly his fault.

Ummm, Did he do anything after 1990?

I must be a misanthrope. I don't like hero worship. Without mentioning "the obvious" it seems to me "disconnected" all the news blab about "The Lion of the Senate" who worked hard all his life for health care reform===and we still don't have decent health care in this country.

About sums it up.
